Spring Seed Starter

Spring Seed Starter

Want to get a jump on your garden? Create this handy window Seed Starter to get you on your way!

You may recognize this project from kindergarten class, but it is a great garden hack for both kids and adults. It is fun to watch your seeds sprout and grow in the warm sun, regardless of your outside temperature. Once the seedlings get their “legs” you can simply transfer them to your garden for a ready made garden!

CRICUT TOOLS:
Standard Cricut® Mat
Cricut® Premium Fine Point Blade
Cricut® Single Scoring Wheel 01
Cricut® Scraper

PAPER MATERIALS:
2 Pieces of 12x12 Medium/Heavy Weight Cardstock

OTHER SUPPLIES:
Hot Glue Gun
Tape
Sandwich Bag
Suction Cup with Hook
1/4 Cup Garden Soil

1) Download, score and cut your mini greenhouse pieces and carefully remove from your mat.

2) Fold along score lines on both cut outs and use your scraper tool to ensure a firm, clean fold.

3) Place glue only the corners that meet on each cut out to create a short pocket on each piece.

4) Once the glue is applied to the corners, press down to make sure they do not pop open. Using a file clip to secure the corners while the glue cools will free your hands to glue the next piece.

5) Next, add half of the soil to the sandwich bag, then sprinkle the seeds on top. Add additional soil on top of the seeds until you have about an inch of dirt at the bottom of the bag.

6) Add a touch of water if you find that the soil isn’t moist. The tight zipper on the sandwich bag does not allow water to evaporate, so too much moisture may cause mold.

7) Close the bag containing the soil and seeds and attach it to one of the cutouts by taping the bag just above the zipper. Align the bag so that the zipper isn’t showing through the window and press down the tape.

8) Tuck the sandwich bag behind the flaps, and glue the flaps on the sides and bottom from both cut outs to each other to construct a pocket. Leave the angled top open and unglued. (Be careful not to melt the bag with the hot glue.)

9) Once the hot glue has cooled and the paper pieces are attached, hang your seed started in your window and watch your little seeds sprout!
